A Racing Stable's Resilient Spirit: Rising from the Ashes
In the wake of a devastating fire that ravaged Lindsay Park's Euroa property, leaving only a small irrigated area untouched, the Hayes family is determined to rebuild and resume operations. This story is a testament to their unwavering spirit and the power of resilience.
The Longwood fire claimed the lives of seven horses and destroyed most of the training center, but the family is not giving up. They've shared an uplifting update, stating, "We're almost there! Our main training infrastructure is intact, and we're working tirelessly to get back on track."
But here's where it gets controversial... The family emphasizes that their horses' safety is paramount. They've ensured that the remaining horses can continue their training routines without interruption. "Our horses' well-being is our top priority," they assert.
And this is the part most people miss... Lindsay Park's commitment to horse welfare extends beyond their own stables. With the loss of fencing, 23 retired horses now need new homes. The family is reaching out to horse lovers, asking for help in providing these beautiful animals with a comfortable and loving retirement.
"Lindsay Park has always been dedicated to retraining off-track horses, but our current situation demands a different approach. These horses deserve a chance at a new life," they explain.
The family has a plan in place. They'll be moving their current horses to Dorrington Farm (now Nook Farm) in Nagambie, offering specialized accommodation. Meanwhile, their Collingrove property, untouched by the fires, will be prepared to receive horses by mid-February.
"Collingrove is a sanctuary, and we're grateful it survived the blaze. It will play a crucial role in our recovery," they add.
In a heartfelt message, the Hayes family expresses gratitude for the outpouring of support they've received. "Your kindness keeps us going. We apologize for not being able to respond to everyone individually, but every resource is dedicated to our horses' care and our future."
